The Critique

Creative critique, often mis-measured by a simple like or dislike, but is it a good way judge a work?  Neither is a judgement of its life like representation. A good critique will focus more on the elements and principles of design and less on your personal preference. Not to under value one’s preference but to create a formal analysis you need an objective outlook, let’s examine the process.

Originality is one of the most important aspects of creative expression. Learning to draw from recreating pictures, to enhance techniques is always good practice, however creating an original drawing that works with original themes broadens the mind and creates unique thought.

Identifying the principles represented by the artist and the effectiveness of their use in the project. When doing a written critique note the principle or element and how the artist creates theme with its use, then rate the outcome successful or unsuccessful.  A work can be very effective and not speak to your personal preference or style.

Create a self portrait that tells the viewer something about you personally through visual representation. You may use a mirror or picture to create your drawing but add visual descriptions that might represent you to others for example objects flowing from your mouth; if they were flowers what would that say about your personality, what would various blades tumbling from your lips say? Create an original expression of yourself that reveals your personal characteristics to others. Use line, texture and value to depict this representation of you.
