What is Drawing

Cave Painting from Paleolithic Period Drawing is a mental and physical act, drawing brings to fruition what you see and what you imagine. Drawing is the basis of all art. It is a skill that can be learned through practice. There are no rights and wrongs in the drawing field. The best way for you to learn is to jump in and draw! Like any other skill you only develop through practice. We will use a sketchbook to develop our skills. Research and define the following terms (see setting up journal) please add them to your Drawing Journal. sketch, sketchbook, doodle, and thumbnail All drawing is a form of visual communication, from architectural plans to graffiti they all are communicating information or a message. Create a page in your journal titled Daily Forms of Visual Communication, list all visual forms that you see in your daily life. This will be an on going list. You may not have a lot of entries now but as you progress and have a heightened awareness of looking for visual language you will see them more and more… record them on this page.
